the blood won't stop :(
by Real Like A Plastic Bouquet ([info]glortw)
at July 13th, 2009 (03:51 pm)

I was on my pill-free week..then I began taking the pills again the day before yesterday. I'm still bleeding pretty heavily. I'm just a little worried. Usually the blood stops within a day or so of taking the active pill. Should I be worried?

Hiya-
I went to Hawaii for the first time for a conference last week, and was stuck inside for work mostly, but had a final day to be a beach bum. I was actually better than I usually am about putting on sunscreen and reapplying, but it was a blazing hot beach in the middle of the day and I am naturally a pasty white color (I don't tan, but just burn and turn white again). I missed a spot on my upper outer thighs under my swimsuit line while putting on sunscreen, and didn't put a high enough SPF on my back (was using a weaker sunscreen before borrowing a friend's stronger one). Now I'm quite badly burned, and its the third day I've had this burn and today is definitely the worst. It hurts to move my arms at all because the skin on my back feels dry and like it wants to crack. I've been taking ibuprofen as needed and putting an aloe vera gel I bought in the airport on my burns.

What else can I do to speed the healing process? I haven't burned like this since I was a kid, and maybe not even then, since I didn't grow up near nice, sandy beaches.

Brown period?
by Jessica ([info]amethystrse)
at July 13th, 2009 (02:47 pm)

Hi everyone I'm hoping you could shed some light for me.

My period was due any day now. So there was no surprse he I woke up tis morning and had some pinkish red on the toilet paper. I put on a pad and used my cup. My first three days of my period is usually so bad that I need the extra protection. That was at 7 am.

It's now almost 3 pm and I've barely bled at all. Just a little more than what I would consider spotting. I've gone to the bathroom as much as I usually would when I have my period to empty and clean the cup. All day the color went from red to dark brown.

My period is usually a light brown at the END of it and red at the beginning. Light brown. Usually on the fifth day till the end (I get my period sometimes for as much as 2 weeks. Seen the doctor and he has no clue why my periods are so long).

The fact that it's extremely light and such a dark brown worries me. But I don't know if I should see the doctor or if it's nothing worry about. There's no odor and I'm not cramping. I don't know what to think.

EDIT: it won't let me add tags.

A different kind of UTI?
by heatherette2 ([info]heatherette2)
at July 13th, 2009 (11:34 am)
blah

current mood: blah

In the early hours of the morning I woke up to pee, and then 5 minutes later peed again, and again, etc. In between each time I went I had that  yucky feeling of discomfort and having "to go". When I did pee though, it was pretty clear (I've been drinking lots of fluids just cuz it's so darn hot now) and it didn't burn or have that sharp pain you get upon finishing peeing. Just the extreme urge to go often and the very uncomfortable feeling.
I've had UTI's before so I'm very familiar with the symptoms and feeling but I thought it odd that this time I don't have the burning or blood in urine. Could this be a different kind of UTI or did I just catch it really early?
I'm drinking lots of water and cranberry juice and taking Azo Standard pills 3x a day to try and flush it out of my system. Any other advice to get over this asap??

Porn Magazines for Women- Recommendations?
by The Wolf's Lair ([info]airenwoodmoon)
at July 13th, 2009 (12:03 pm)

Hi all! Happy Monday! I hope this is fairly on topic.

Basically I'm looking for a new print magazine to replace the void that was left when Playgirl stopped printing. I'm still fairly new to the world of porn magazines and everything, but all I've really found so far seems geared towards homosexual men. While I actually don't mind that too much I'm still hoping there might be something at least making the pretense of appealing to women as well. If not that's cool too, and I still don't know where to start looking.

So, anyone have any good recommendations? Ones they like? Due to my living situation and general preference I'm looking for physically printed magazines. I just want pretty guys. :)

Thanks and I hope you all have a good day!

(Also, for the heck of it, if anyone has recommendations for art photography books send them along too! :) I'm pretty fishing for the name of a gorgeous nude male photography book that I found out about in college, but I love art books. Any and all genders.)

Spotting after years on Yaz
by Something Quite Peculiar ([info]sundry_pieces)
at July 13th, 2009 (12:49 pm)

Slight variation on a spotting question, my apologies, but couldn't find anything satisfying in FAQs or tags or topics.

What kinds of things should I be paying attention to if I'm suddenly spotting on an HBC that I've been on for years with no problem?

Not sure where to turn my attention to -- diet change, late pill weeks ago, other lifestyle or health issues? More info )

Any ideas? I know spotting isn't something to freak over, but not having had an issue with it, ever, + the length of this in spite of active pills is, uh, perplexing. Wondering if it's time for another switch (WOE - I LOVE THIS PILL) or if it might be something more srs.

Thanks!

Instead cups after having two children...
by Ashley ([info]ashleykristin)
at July 13th, 2009 (01:06 pm)

So i've had 2 children (vaginally) in the last two years.  N is almost 23 months and E is almost 5 months.  (Word of advice:  JUST because you struggle with fertility with the first does not mean you will with the second.  PROTECT yourself if you're not ready for another one! LOL)  ANYWAYS, I just recently tried the instead cup after using pads and tampons my whole life.  I do like them for the convience factor but I have a question for those who haved used it after having kids.  Do you leak a lot?  I didn't leak a ton yesterday, but I did leak after going to the bathroom and coughing/laughing, which means I have to wear a pad anyways.  Tips?  Do the mooncups/divacups do this too?  I was trying this in hopes to work up the courage to try one of those.  Do they still have a year guarantee on them?

Thanks!

Storage Length of NuvaRing
by Hillary M. ([info]suspechosa)
at July 13th, 2009 (09:37 am)

Hey everyone,

So I know most people say you can only store NuvaRing for 3-4 months, but the rings I have now don't expire until October 2011. How does that work?

If I keep them in the fridge can I wait to use them? (I'm not looking to wait till 2011, but want to sometime within the next year).

Please let me me know what you know.

Thank you!

do me a favor...

take a look at your vulva. do the skin cells that compose your vulva look different than the skin cells surrounding it on the rest of your body? it looks like skin on parts of my vulva is composed of hundreds of little lumps of skin instead of just one smooth surface. is this weird?

Need to remove paint from wood
by Spaces ([info]speciesofspaces)
at July 13th, 2009 (10:55 am)

Hi Natural Living --

I need to remove some paint from some trim and a few doors. I believe that there are several layers of old high gloss oil based paint on the wood. I need to remove at least the top two layers so that I can get a latex primer to stick.

I'm ignoring the sanding option for now, and Zissner / 123 isn't sticking.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a non-toxic / "green" paint stripper?

Nuvaring - 3 week/4 week changes
by elle deux ([info]justseventeen)
at July 13th, 2009 (11:48 am)

I'm on my fourth month of Nuvaring and everything is going well so far. I'm on a 3 weeks IN/1 week OUT cycle.

In the coming fall, there are two weekends (one in September, my birthday, one in December, Christmas) where I do not want to have my ring out. If I continue my 3 week routine, I will have my ring out on my birthday. I've done the math, and the best way to remedy this is to wear my current ring (my "July ring"), as well as my "August ring" and "September ring" for an extra week each so that I'm covered for the September and December weekends. In other words, I'd change my routine to 4 weeks IN/1 week OUT for 3 cycles, and then start again in October with my current program, 3 weeks IN/1 week OUT.

So, questions:

1. Is this wise, considering I've just started the ring? I don't want to tempt fate and cause problems, particularly when things are going so well. I've had little side effects, and my period is much lighter and quicker. I don't want to change this.

2. Do you think it's likely I will get breakthrough bleeding in my fourth weeks?

3. I'm assuming this doesn't affect protection, but figured I'd ask. Yes?

Thank you!

Soy Protein...?
by onceuponatime21 ([info]onceuponatime21)
at July 13th, 2009 (10:37 am)

I started taking Soy Protein.

I've been doing some research and of course everything has negative/positives. So far the positives have out weighted the negatives. But I have come across some interesting articles regarding giving Soy products to babies; they refer to it as giving your child a birth control pill. Apparently soy contains estrogen like chemicals (correct me if I'm wrong... this is just what I have read).

So - does soy have a negative effect on the hbc I currently take? or does it just raise the amount of estrogen that I already have?

Thanks!

More Fangirl Fun: Giulietta Masina

Though there's really no need to defend this one, I think I'll add to the recent influx of tribute/defense posts of so-called 'hipster icons'-- the Anna Karina post was wonderful, as was the Audrey Hepburn, but if they're too conventional (let's just throw the word 'hipster' out the goddamn window already, puh-leeeease. Hipsters, as defined by pop culture at large, are self-reflexive and self-contained, defining themselves by what they buy-- liking something that's obviously awesome, no matter how cliché it is, does not a hipster make.), then here's another woman of mid-century foreign film, slightly less well known but no less worthy of mass idolatry-- by request, my personal favorite--

Giulieta Masina!

break through bleeding
by jess ([info]jitendra)
at July 13th, 2009 (10:03 am)

I missed one pill on ortho tri-lo on the 26th of June and I've been bleeding moderately heavily pretty much since then. Right now I'm on the placebo pills for the pack I missed a day on - do you guys think there's any chance I should hope that this'll stop once I start the new pack?

also, I was thinking of quitting the bcp entirely because I'm becoming concerned about the impact of my girly pee on the fishies and the froggies. But I'm worried that once I stop taking them I'll either never bleed again or never STOP bleeding.

other than the bleeding there's no pain, and I don't really get cramps. But this is damn annoying.

Implanon + pill
by hajari_ ([info]hajari_)
at July 13th, 2009 (11:06 pm)

I have just switched from the pill to Implanon, but I'm a little bit confused. My doctor wrote out a prescription for both the pill and Implanon, and I thought she had done this in case I couldn't get an appointment before my period finished and would have to wait until the following month. When I went back a couple of days later to have Implanon inserted, she seemed to be saying something about taking the pill for the first few months and then going off it... I didn't really get it because her accent was a little bit strong, and I was too distracted by the giant needle to ask for clarification. =P

So is there any reason I should be taking the pill while I have Implanon? I know I don't need it for contraception, and it seems ridiculous to be taking oral hormones when I have a stick in my arm already giving off plenty of hormones. Anyone have any idea what my doctor was talking about?

(sorry if this is unclear!)
